Our first new tournament of 2025 starts on January 20. (Rounds four and five of our current tournament are taking place on January 6 and 13.) This youth tournament features a shorter, but still classical time control of 30+30 (delay), meaning that games should not take much longer than one hour, maximum. (Delay, or Bronstein delay, means that the player's clocks will not start counting down until thirty seconds after the clock is pressed, but no time is accumulated. This leads to slightly shorter games than the more normal increment, in which thirty seconds is added to a player's time with each move.) This tournament is CFC-rated, allowing young players (under 16 years of age) to build their classical rating. Winners earn the right to play in the next regular tournament in an appropriate section, if they wish. No round on February 17 (Family Day, club is closed.) The cost is $10 per round, $30 per tournament, or $100 for an annual membership. Chief arbiter: Keith Denning.
