E1: Toronto Closed Chess Championship (Mondays, 10 weeks, in-person) The 2023 Toronto Closed Chess Championship is overseen by the Greater Toronto Chess League (GTCL) and the event has a long and storied past. Here are the details of this planned event for 2023: Link to players list with ratings. Location: Annex Chess Club (Great Hall and/or Sun Room). 9-round, Round Robin chess tournament with a max. of 4 sections of 10 players each—Championship, Reserve, Development and Annex. It is open to men and women of all ages. Total – max. of 40 players. 7:30 PM each Monday evening. Play dates are April 17/24, May 1/8/15/29 and Jun 5/12/19/26. Makeup games will be done on June 19. A few other makeup game dates will be provided, where possible. 90' + 30" time control. CFC and FIDE rated where possible. Pre-registration is required though there is no fee for that. The top 40 CFC-rated players will be accepted and will then pay the final tournament fee. Current CFC membership required. Final pricing for pre-approved players is $110-ACC Member, $110-FIDE Titled Player, $140-Other Players. Only logged-in registered ACC Members will be able to access the appropriate ACC discounted pricing codes when pre-registering or registering. All prices are HST-included. Please use the player's first and last name during registration. Keith Denning is the designated arbiter for this event. Players' names will be disclosed in all registration lists. In each of the three tournaments, there is a CROWN Section with a minimum rating requirement of 2200 FIDE, and a capacity for 60 players. There are also one or more GENERAL Sections for each tournament, with an additional capacity for 200+ players per tournament. The CROWN Sections for the three tournaments includes 18 International GMs (including several Canadians). The remaining CROWN Section players is to be comprised of International WGMs\IMs\WIMs (approximately half of which will be Canadians), and they are all eligible to earn a GM norm in the Montreal classic tournament. Bundled pricing is available for those players in GENERAL Sections who wish to play in the two Toronto quick tournaments (TB+TR) but not the Montreal classic (TC) tournament. Extended bundle pricing is available for those who wish to play in all three tournaments (TB+TR+TC). Transnational Blitz: The TB Tournament is a 7-double round blitz with a 3'+2" time control, running from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with all play taking place on Saturday, June 3. This event has an estimated prize fund of $2,000. Transnational Rapid: The TR Tournament is an 11-round rapid with a 15'+5" time control, with Part I (first 3 rounds) running from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, June 3, and Part II (last 8 rounds) running from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 4. This event has an estimated prize fund of approximately $3,000. Transnational Classic: The TC Tournament is a 9-round classic norms tournament with a 90'+30" time control running from Tuesday, June 6 to Sunday, June 11 for the CROWN Section. It is a 6-round classic tournament for the GENERAL Sections, running from Friday June 9 to Sunday, June 11. The proposed GENERAL Sections are: Crown, U1900, U1600, U1300 and U1000. This event has an estimated prize fund of approximately $5,000. Transnational Bonus Pool: The 60 players playing in the CROWN section of all three events participate in a Transnational bonus prize fund based on a 100%, 50% and 25% weighting coefficient applied to Transnational Classic, Transnational Rapid and Transnational Blitz points earned (assuming 1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss). A maximum of 18 weighted pts may be earned (9.0, 5.5 and 3.5) at the three events, from their raw pts (of 9, 11 and 14), respectively. The Bonus Prize Pool is estimated to be $5,000 before any potential sponsorships. There is also a Women’s Bonus Prize Pool of $1,500 ($1,000-1st and $500-2nd). E5: Toronto Blitz Chess Championship (1 evening, in-person) The 2023 Toronto Blitz Chess Championship is overseen by the Greater Toronto Chess League (GTCL). Here are the details of this planned event for 2023: Location: Annex Chess Club (Great Hall and/or Sun Room). 7 double-round blitz tournament; 3' + 2" time control. Round #1 starts at 7:00 PM start. CFC and FIDE rated where possible. $2,650 prize fund, including $1,200 for 1st Place. Current CFC membership required. Earlybird pricing to July 24 - Adult ($50), Jr/Sr/Wm ($40). E7: Toronto Women's Closed Chess Championship (10 weeks, in-person) The 2023 Toronto Closed Chess Championship is overseen by the Greater Toronto Chess League (GTCL). Here are the details of this planned event for 2023: Location: Annex Chess Club (Great Hall and/or Sun Room). 7-round, Swiss in one section. Open to women of all ages. 7:30 PM each Monday evening. Play dates are Sep 18/25, Oct 2/16/23, Nov 6/13. 90' + 30" time control. Pre-registration required. Final player list will depend on top 30 CFC-rated players. Minimum 1300 rating. CFC and FIDE rated (provided minimum requirements met). Current CFC membership required. Final pricing for pre-approved players is $65-ACC Member, Free-FIDE Titled Player, $85-Other Players.
