Advanced Zoom Classes - Tuesday eve's, 8 weeks, online 

In this 8-week course, IM Mark Plotkin teaches you Positional Chess – Its Challenges & RewardsThese advanced classes are 1.5 hrs. long and start at 7:00 PM each Tuesday via Zoom. Classes may be purchased on an a-la-carte basis.


Instructor: IM Mark Plotkin

Students should already be familiar with the concepts covered in our Adult Intermediate Course. Junior players may attend this course with the instructor's permission, though their parents will pay the adult fees including HST.

Positional chess refers to a style of chess where a player focuses on creating the best possible position for themselves rather than going for an attack, or winning through a tactic. This course is aimed at club players already playing in rated tournaments.

Here are the 8 lessons to be covered in this course on Positional Chess:

  • Lesson 1: Blockading the IQP
  • Lesson 2: General Blockading
  • Lesson 3: Playing Against the Blockade
  • Lesson 4: Avoiding the Blockade
  • Lesson 5: Good Knight vs Bad Bishop
  • Lesson 6: Good Bishop vs Bad Knight
  • Lesson 7: Sacrificing the Exchange
  • Lesson 8: Equivalents for the Queen
Class dates are: March 28, April 4/11/18/25 and May 2/9/16.
