Our tournament follows all basic rules of chess play as defined by CFC and FIDE. Please refer to the FIDE handbook for a complete rundown of what not to do!

All players must keep an accurate scoresheet. Touch move and touch take apply. When making a move, all actions (moving a piece, capturing, castling, and pressing the clock) must be made with one hand.

Distracting behaviour is strictly forbidden. This includes, but is not restricted to: eating food at the board, talking to or touching the opponent, and offering draws repeatedly or insincerely.

Spectators (including parents) are strictly forbidden from interacting directly with players during game play. Interference with a player during a game may result in penalties against that player, up to and including loss of game. Spectators who have concerns about games in play must confer first and only with tournament arbiters.

All players must have electronic devices OFF throughout all games, unless an exception has been allowed by the tournament director or chief arbiter. This means: all cellphones, tablets, computers, smartwatches, and the like must be OFF. Wearable electronics, like smartwatches or regular watches, may not be worn during game play.

Such devices may be placed face down at the playing table, or stored in a bag at edge of the playing hall, and may not be taken out of the hall when a player takes a break from play.

Any sound or vibration that comes from a player's device will result in loss of game.

Illegal moves: a first illegal move in a game results in a time penalty (two minutes) awarded to the opponent. A second illegal move in the same game results in loss of game.

About this event

Date and time: Saturday September 5 - Monday September 7 2026. Two rounds daily at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Format: six-round Swiss tournament, with the following sections: Crown, U2200, U1900, U1600, U1300.

Time control: 90 minutes + 30 second increment

Rating: All sections CFC-rated. Crown, U2200 and U1900 also FIDE-rated. A valid CFC membership is required. Section eligibility determined by highest of CFC rating, FQE rating or FIDE rating.

Chief Arbiter: IA Uttam Dhungel

Prizes: Prize fund of $7000 (based on 250 entrants), with guaranteed $1500 for first place, prizes for top three in each section. Prizes for the U1300 section will be medals.

Prizes also for top senior, junior, woman and ACC member in each section.

Entry Fee:

Early bird $115 before August 8, 2026
Regular $135 Aug. 8 through Aug. 25, 2026
Late $150 after August 25 2026.
$20 discount for ACC members, seniors (60 and over) and juniors (18 and under), to a maximum discount of $20.

Registrations close on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. There are no in-person registrations.

Refunds: Registration fee minus $20 through August 25. 50% until September 1. After September 1, no refunds will be issued.

Byes: Half-point byes are available for rounds 1-4, zero point byes for rounds 5 and 6. Please email tournaments@annexchessclub.com for all bye requests.

Play-up: Players may play up a section if they are within 100 points of the rating floor of the next section, based on the latest rating update prior to the tournament. Play up is permitted for all sections. The play-up fee is $20, payable on arrival to the tournament. All play up requests must be emailed to tournaments@annexchessclub.com.
