Shirov is Coming – February 27

Alexei Shirov

Alexei Shirov is a Latvian international grandmaster. After playing for Spain for many years, he currently represents Latvia once again. One of the world’s best, he has been ranked in the top five, and has come close to becoming World Champion.

With an Elo of 2710, he is a member of the prestigious 2700 club, and is presently ranked 31st in the world. This January 2012, he won the Paul Keres Memorial.

Shirov is returning to Toronto! On February 27, 2012, he will be giving a short chess lecture and simultaneous exhibition at Annex Chess Club.

The 2010 Toronto visit

Shirov visited Toronto last year, in 2010, and gave a simul at Scarborough Chess Club. His record was +17 -2 =6, with wins by Zaidun Alganabi and John Hall, and draws by Alex Rapoport, William Rutherdale, Rune Pederson, Erwin Casareno, Pepin Manalo, and Arkadiy Ugodnikov!
