About this event
Welcome to the 2026 Toronto Closed! Annex Chess Club is honoured once again to host this tournament on behalf of the Greater Toronto Chess League.
This is a nine-round round robin with a classical time control of 90+30.
The tournament will run from April 13 through June 22 2026, with a game each Monday starting at 7:30 p.m. No play on Monday May 18 (Victoria Day) or Monday June 1 (which is the tournament's make-up day.)
The Closed is arranged in sections of ten players, with the following sections: Championship, Reserve, Development and Annex (if needed). Placement in a section will be determined by the higher of CFC or FIDE rating.
Prize Fund
Championship Section: $1400, with a $500 guaranteed prize for first place.
Reserve Section: $1000, Development Section: $750. Annex Section: $400.
Prizes for the top three in each section, plus top woman, junior, senior and ACC member.
Registration
We are implementing a different registration this year. You can register by paying $150 ($120 for ACC members, juniors, seniors, and FIDE-titled players).
The final price paid will depend upon what section you are placed in. Championship: $150, Reserve: $140, Development, $130, Annex $120. Refunds or credits will be given when final placements are established.
If you pay for the Toronto Closed and do not get placed, you will the get a full rebate. You paid $150 but there's no group of ten you can join, you get your money back.
If you pay for the Toronto Closed and get placed in a lower section you'll be given a rebate. So, if you paid the upfront fee and ended up in the Development Section, we'll give you $20.
ACC members will receive a two-month extension on their memberships for participating in the Toronto Closed.
Non-members may get any ACC membership at signup with a $30 discount. First place winners in each section (who are not ACC members) will be offered a six-month ACC membership.
As many of you understand, playing in a round robin is a serious commitment. Every participant is expected to play every round, and withdrawals can seriously damage the event. Withdrawal from the Toronto Closed will result in a ban from participation in the next Toronto Closed ACC operates.
The day for make-up games is june 1. Additional make-up games, on other days, will induce a $20 charge to the person asking for the make-up.
