The Toronto Closed – Final Players List has been modified as: i) one player dropped out of the Reserve Section and one player moved up into the Annex Section from the Ineligible Players group; and ii) a couple of ratings were adjusted slightly. The individual sections were then all recalibrated, and the final list is presented on our website here.

Random numbers were used to assign unique numbers (1 to 10) to each section’s final players. This was done by Alex Ferreira and George Supol. Pairings were then determined using those random numbers and the recommended FIDE Berger pairings, as follows:

Set Pairings: 10 players (numbered 1 to 10) for each section

  • Rd 1: 1-10, 2-9, 3-8, 4-7, 5-6. (Sept 12)
  • Rd 2: 10-6, 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, 1-2. (Sept 19)
  • Rd 3: 2-10, 3-1, 4-9, 5-8, 6-7. (Sep 26)
  • Rd 4: 10-7, 8-6, 9-5, 1-4, 2-3. (Oct 3)
  • Rd 5: 3-10, 4-2, 5-1, 6-9, 7-8. (Oct 17)
  • Rd 6: 10-8, 9-7, 1-6, 2-5, 3-4. (Oct 24)
  • Rd 7: 4-10, 5-3, 6-2, 7-1, 8-9.  (Oct 31)
  • Rd 8: 10-9, 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5.  (Nov 7)
  • Rd 9: 5-10, 6-4, 7-3, 8-2, 9-1. (Nov 21)

Accordingly, the Toronto Closed round-robin pairings are not influenced by either ratings or results, as they would be in a swiss tournament.
