Toronto Closed – Final Players List

Below is a Final Players List for the Toronto Closed. Forty-players are assigned to spots in the four sections on the basis of their CFC (or alternative chess federation) sorted classical-play ratings, as at August 24, 2022. Included in the Final Players List is a total of 4 players who will obtain their first classical-play FIDE rating upon the completion of this event.

UPDATED SEPT 3:

Three additional players dropped out due to inaction prior to the Sept 2 deadline, two from the Reserve Section and one player from the Development Section. This led to three more players from the Ineligible Players group moving up to the Annex Section. All the sections were recalibrated. In addition, two players from the Ineligible Players group decided not to move up and so they also dropped out.

UPDATED SEPT 9

    1. Hi Mario. You were sent an email this morning with instructions on how to do that. Please proceed to final-register. If you experience any problems, please call me at 647-822-4628.

    1. Hi Dave.

As I understand it from Alex Ferreira, our arbiter, round-robin pairings for the Toronto Closed will be made as follows:

      1. For each section, players are initially assigned numbers from 1 to 10 on a completely random basis.
      2. A preset pairings formula is then applied to each section using the randomly assigned numbers from #1 above.
      3. All pairings by round can then be pre-announced for all players—in all sections for all 9 rounds.
      4. At no time, do ratings (or results) within a section affect the order of play over any of the 9 rounds.

Pairings will likely be posted on or about September 10, 2022, a couple of days before the Monday start of the Toronto Closed.

      Best regards,

      George Supol
