2013 Toronto Women’s and Junior Championships

Annex Chess Club is proud to present the 2013 Toronto Women’s Chess Championship and 2013 Toronto Junior Chess Championship.

Officially sanctioned by the GTCL, these are “closed championships”; only the top eight (by CFC rating) eligible players who apply will be able to participate.

The Toronto Junior Championship consists of the top 8 CFC-rated Greater Toronto Area junior chess players who apply (born 1994 or after)

Preregistered: Daniel Zotkin, Zehn Nasir, Alexandre Michelashvili

The Toronto Women’s Championship consists of the top 8 CFC-rated Greater Toronto Area female chess players who apply (of any age)

Preregistered: Jiaxin Liu, Rebecca Giblon

Chief Arbiter: Alex Ferreira
Deputy Arbiter: Tyler Longo
8-player Round Robin, FIDE-rated
Rounds: Monday nights at 918 Bathurst at 7:30 pm
Time control: game/90′ +30″/move
October 21 to December 2 (make-up Dec 9)
$60 entry fee ($10 off for ACC members)
Prizes: $200/$100/$60
Tie-breaks (head-to-head, and then Sonneborn-Berger) will be used to determine the official champion, but will not affect prizes

Zhanna SametovaToronto Women’s Chess Championship

Sanctioned by the GTCL, which represents Greater Toronto in the Ontario Chess Association, this is a six-player round-robin tournament, featuring the top Toronto female chess players who applied. It will be played on Monday nights at Annex Chess Club, 918 Bathurst, from October 15 to December 3.

The Toronto Senior Championship ran concurrently at Willowdale CC on Tuesday nights.

Fall Events at ACC

Labour Day Open

September 3 to 5, we had a great Toronto Labour Day Open at Annex Chess Club to kick off our fall schedule – check final results.

GM Nigel Short visit

September 19, Nigel Short gave an impressive and entertaining endgame lecture (where he introduced “vacuum chess” and “the final frontier” among other things), then he gave a 32-player simul (where, after 6 hours, he finished with a record of 28-1-3 against our Toronto players) … and then he came out to the pub with us!

David Lawless was the sole Toronto player who managed to take a full point – after Nigel apparently failed to notice a queen check! See the results page. We’ll have some more games from the simul, soon.
