Toronto Blitz – This Monday Eve

Here is the latest info about the Toronto Blitz.

  1. Link for event on the Chess-Results server.
  2. The Toronto Blitz Championship is being held this Monday evening (Aug 22) at the 918 Bathurst Centre.
  3. Round #1 of 7 double rounds is scheduled to start at 7:00 P.M. The event should be completed by 11:00 P.M.
  4. A presentation by GTCL will be made at 6:45 P.M. followed by ACC announcements.
  5. Setup of the Great Hall will commence at 5:00 P.M. and should be completed by 6:30 P.M. at which time players may enter the building. If it’s raining, players can enter the building earlier but not the Great Hall.
  6. The Arbiters for the event are Alex Ferriera (Lead) and Omar Shah (Assistant).
  7. ACC Board Members will be assisting—George Supol (Tournament Organizer), Mel Directo, Michael Sutton, Salim Belcadi (ACC President). Salim will be playing in the event. ACC’s new Resident WGM, Anna Burtasova will also be playing in the event.
  8. Tournament Support personnel will all be wearing orange ACC hats, so they will be easy to spot.
  9. The Prize Fund is set at $2,500 as follows: 1st ($1,200), 2nd ($600), 3rd ($300), Top U2200 ($200), Top U1800 ($100), Top U1500 ($100). The winner(s) will be presented with the Annex Cup. Prizes will be sent out electronically by e-transfer at the conclusion of the event. No cash will be distributed onsite.
  10. The tournament will be both CFC Quick-rated and FIDE blitz-rated.
  11. Hopefully, there will be a gathering of players at Paupers Pub (539 Bloor St. West) after the event has concluded.
  12. Players are advised to bring their own Covid-19 masks for personal protection. However, officially this is a mask-optional event.
