Summer is coming! – Why not stretch your mental muscles with some chess lessons!

Sign up for a Spring or Summer chess class

Annex Chess Club in downtown Toronto has evening Live Online chess classes for adults and children – for absolute beginners or for those who want to take their game to the next level.

Register online for a new session of May-June classes. Monday night Kids Classes are available at beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels. And the intermediate level is also offered on Wednesdays.

Adult beginners can try a 2-week adult beginner class with Keith Denning, on Monday nights starting May 31 or again starting June 21. This will give you some techniques and principles for making good moves in the opening, middlegame and endgame.

Or if chess is completely new to you, Keith can bring you up to speed with an intro to chess on June 15 This takes you, in one lesson, right from the start with how the pieces move and how to set up the board, through all the rules of the game, how to check and checkmate, and even a few ideas for getting your game off to a good start.

If you’re familiar with basic opening, middlegame, and endgame principles, but you’re looking to go a bit deeper, try a 5-week intermediate class with FM Terry Song. There’s one starting May 10, and for those who took the class earlier this year, this one will cover all new topics.

Or for tournament players looking to improve, FM Michael Humphreys is teaching a high-level Thursday night adult advanced course, starting June 3. Who would Spiderman be without Lex Luthor? Sherlock Holmes without Professor Moriarty? This time around, Michael’s course will showcase some of the greatest chess players of all time as seen through a series of historical rivalries:
Week 1: La Bourdonnais vs. McDonnell
Week 2: Rubinstein vs. Salwe
Week 3: Botvinnik vs. Smyslov
Week 4: Spassky vs. Korchnoi
Week 5: Karpov vs. Kasparov
Week 6: Kramnik vs. Topalov vs. Anand

There is a class for everyone!
