Playing top board in Rd 10/11 U14 Girls at 2014 WYCC in South Africa,
Canadian Qiyu Zhou, from Toronto (at one point), plays white against Poland’s Oliwia Kiolbasa. Both have 7.5/9.
… And the game ends in a draw.
Zhou now enters the final round, playing black against Russia’s Anastasia Kozina, still in just a two-way tie for first with Kiolbasa at 8.0/10.
Her “potential gold medal game” starts at 4:00 am Monday!
Go, Qiyu!
Canadians are also closely watching co-leader Oliwia Kiolbasa’s last-round game against Alexandra Obolentseva:
With both players drawing, Zhou had to wait for the tiebreak calculation. In the end, Qiyu was calculated to have played tougher opponents and was awarded the gold medal!
Congratulations, Qiyu!
