Two chess films at TIFF 2014

The recent TIFF, featured two chess films, Dark Horse, and Pawn Sacrifice.



The Dark Horse
A former speed-chess champion struggling with bipolar disorder (Cliff Curtis) takes over as coach of a chess team for at-risk youth, in the inspirational true story of New Zealand chess legend Genesis Potini.

Pawn Sacrifice
American chess phenomenon Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) squares off against his Russian rival Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber) in the 1972 “Match of the Century” in Reykjavik, in this gripping docudrama from director Edward Zwick (Glory) and screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises).
