Benasque 2013 Open, Spain
There were 428 players in the 2013 Benasque Open including 36 GMs, 5 WGMs, 25 IMs – and 5 Annex players!
- Michael Humphreys 2183 6/10 +5 FIDE rating points.
(He defeated a 2342 player but lost to a GM and an IM.) - Jonathan Farine 1886 5/9 +44 FIDE rating points!
(Lost to a WGM and scored 2.5/4 against experts.) - Alex Ferreira 1981 5/10 -11 points. (Lost to a GM and an IM.)
- Carlos Romero Alfonso 1848 4.5/10 +3 points.
The guys all forfeited a round? Slept in? - Shabnam Abbarin 1.5/8 – enough to get her started towards her first FIDE rating.

Here are Geordie’s Round-3 draw against our friend, GM Elshan Moradiabadi and his Round-4 draw against Cuban IM Rodney Oscar Perez Garcia. (He also drew IM Bindi Cheng in Round 6. Through 6 rounds, he’s +3 -0 =3 for 4.5/6. Wow!)
