World Championship Match starts this May

2012 WCC in Moscow, May 10-31

The World Chess Championship will take place May 10-31 in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia. Boris Gelfand will challenge World Champion, Viswanathan Anand, for the title in a 12-game match.

The prize fund for the match is $2.55 million: 60% to the winner and 40% to the loser.

While Anand is currently ranked 4th in the world by FIDE rating, Gelfand, who won the right to be official challenger in the 2011 Candidates Matches, is currently ranked 22nd. Anand is therefore a heavy favourite to win the match.

Anand has been the undisputed World Champion since 2007. He successfully defended his title against Vladimir Kramnik in 2008, and against Veselin Topalov in 2010.

With the Moscow 2012 match a little more than a month away, the official site is up and running, and a new logo has been approved:
