How to Use This Site

The site runs on WordPress, and was tailor-made for us by web designer Mark Priestley, so it’s quite user-friendly, but I thought I’d post some of the navigation features to help you understand how the site works, and get the most out of the available content.


To start, you can get to all the latest content by using the menu at the top. (Scroll back up to the top if you can’t see it): News | Club | Events | Results | Membership | Contact


The site is set up as a blog site, so most of the new content appears in a “post.” Every new post automatically appears in full under News, and older posts appear in condensed form beneath it. Scroll down to find these older items, then click on the title of the post, or on Read More… to see the full article. When you get to the bottom of the list, you can click on ← Older Posts to browse even further back. If you click on Results in the menu, you get a list of tournament result posts for easier access to tournament cross-tables.


As well as posts, some of the web content appears as “pages.” Back on the menu, Club, Events, Membership, and Contact all direct you to pages. These are updated from time to time – and the Events page is updated weekly – but they’re designed to keep our more permanent content readily accessible. If you’re checking out the site for the first time, you’ll want to look through these, but if you’re a regular visitor, you’ll probably find that you check only the more frequently updated Events page.


Each post has a space below it for your comments, so feel free to give us feedback, share your own news, or start a conversation relevant to that post. Your comment may not appear immediately, but after it gets approved it will be publicly and permanently appended to the post.


Underneath each post are several “tags,” which you can click on to find more posts on the same topic. For example, chess videos takes you to a list of other posts with embedded videos; chess games takes you to posts with viewable games; and Wajdy Shebetah takes you to posts about him.


If you’re looking for something specific, use the Search bar at the very top of the web page, above the menu.


The content on the site can also be shared in a number of ways. At the top of each post, there are Tweet and Like buttons. These allow you to publish a link to the article on Twitter, or let your Facebook friends know you like it. At the bottom of each post, there is a Share button that allows you to share a link on Facebook, Twitter, etc. through the AddtoAny application.
