Family Day Chess Fun

Successful all-day tournament at ACC

The University of Toronto History Students Association and the Chess Institute of Canada organized a kids’ chess tournament at 918 Bathurst on Monday, February 21. We had 14 kids in the primary section (grades 1-3) and 12 kids in the junior section (grades 4-6).

Congratulations to Joshua Feld, who scored 5/5 to win the primary section, and to Vincent Lai, who scored 4/5 to win the junior section (on tiebreak over Michelle Godwin)!

Half-way through the tournament, the tournament director Hugh Siddeley held an “octagon” match. He played sixteen games simultaneously in the middle of eight tables arranged in an octagon. There was a $50 prize for anyone who won their game against Hugh, and a hot-chocolates-for-everyone prize for a draw. Unfortunately, Hugh went 16-0, and no octagon prizes were awarded.

A fun time was had by all!
